Learning to Chase New Experiences Solo

I love experiencing new things with people I care about, from discovering a new store in my neighborhood and eating at a restaurant I found on TikTok, to doing a random activity. I believe life experiences are meant to be shared; that way, you’ll always have someone with whom you can relive the memories. It’s the best feeling when you get to talk it over and someone remembers a part you had forgotten: "Oh my god! You’re so right, I forgot all about that!"
I’m at a point in my life where I’m learning—or forcing myself—to do these new experiences alone. The scariest of them is solo-traveling, but at least once in my life, I’d like to do it out of the country. I’m hoping it will inspire a book or that I’ll have a How Stella Got Her Groove Back moment—although I’m in my twenties, have never been married or been in a real relationship. Nor do I have children. I think it’s more about finding yourself, being free, and being open to exploring all that life has to offer. Chile, let me find a young Taye Diggs to take me to bed, lol. I would love to have a night like that. I might try to bring him home with me too.
I’m in need of self-care and self-exploration. Who is Larion outside of her friends, family, and work? Who is Larion outside of wanting deeper or lasting connections? Who am I when I get to sit alone in a room and just be? I don’t know that answer, and that’s a problem for me. I wish I could let go of my many anxieties and flourish in the sun. Well, I should say, I wish I knew how to do that.
Let’s make a promise to ourselves and to one another that we’ll leave space for ourselves. We will travel and discover new things, and we won’t wait until we have someone to enjoy those moments. Because honestly, what a sad existence to wait around for someone to enjoy the world when you can do it your damn self. You can still share the moments after the fact, and in time, if you put yourself out there, you’ll meet people—or that special someone—who will share in those experiences as well, and it will be ten times more rewarding.
Let me know what you think. Do you enjoy experiencing new things with people, or do you prefer to be alone?
